Are you thinking of getting a handmade snooker cue? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Coutts Cues is a family-run business that specialises in made-to-order snooker cues. We are rare in that we are the only company in the UK that doesn’t manufacture snooker cues using automated or robotic technology.

It takes on average around three years for handmade snooker cues to be ready for use. This is down to the fact that we have strict manufacturing tolerances, and nothing short of perfect leaves our workshop!

Why does it make sense to buy handmade snooker cues from Coutts Cues?

The trouble with buying bespoke snooker cues is that you can never usually guarantee that you’ll end up with a one-off masterpiece. The sad truth is that a lot of “custom” snooker cues are simply copies of existing ones.

Here at Coutts Cues, you can be sure that ordering one of our handmade snooker cues gives you the opportunity to own something truly unique. They are made using traditional manufacturing methods, ones that are extremely rare to find in use in the 21st century.

You might be wondering why we make handmade snooker cues; after all, it’s quicker to use modern manufacturing machines? The truth is, there is a growing demand for professional snooker players and dedicated hobbyists that want to own a cue no-one else has.

Each of the handmade snooker cues is built from scratch by Dave Coutts himself, the founder of Coutts Cues. He has been hand-crafting snooker cues for customers since 1999, and is a rare breed of tradesmen that only want to use traditional manufacturing methods!

How are the handmade snooker cues manufactured?

As you can appreciate, the process is somewhat involved and labour-intensive. However, a brief outline of the manufacturing process is as follows:

  1. Wood selection. Dave Coutts personally seeks out and procures only the finest quality ash, maple, and exotic tree woods available from timber yards across the UK. This is to ensure that the end result is nothing short of perfection;

  2. Shaping. The part of the manufacturing process that takes the longest to complete is shaping. Using only high-quality hand tools, each snooker cue shaft is lovingly planed and spliced;

  3. Finishing. Once the shaping process is finished, the final stage is to “finish” the cue. This involves carefully sanding the wood down using various grades of sandpaper and then the application of finishing oil to protect it.

Dave Coutts has built up a reputation as one of the finest snooker cue craftsmen in the UK, and even in the world! Contact Coutts Cues today if you’d like to arrange a visit to discuss your requirements.
